As a member of the Canadian National Masters Alpine Ski Team, Garnet Peirson knows he has to be at his best both physically and mentally to compete at the highest level.

He competed last year in the 30th Annual Peak to Valley Race in Whistler, BC, Canada. The Peak to Valley race is the longest and most gruelling Giant Slalom race in the world. Participants come from all over the world to compete in this “bucket list” race. The average GS race has 30-35 gates and a vertical drop of 250 meters. The Peak to Valley race has a vertical drop of 1,443 meters, with 180 gates and a course that’s over 5.5 km long. The race requires extreme endurance and mental focus given it’s about 6 times longer than a typical GS race, and Garnet trained for months to complete it successfully.

He turned to ANS Performance supplements for their research-validated, efficacious formula’s for that extra edge he felt he needed to be at his best. For 6 months, he spent hours training both in the gym and on the slopes and used the combination of Pre-Workout Ritual™, Creatine Superfuel CreXcel™ and the top-rated Pro-Thermogenic DIABLO™ to drop weight, increase strength and endurance, and gain muscle.

Quote from Garnet:
“Training, in combination with ANS Performance supplements, last year was a big part of my success. I was able to transform my body from 29% body fat down to about 12%. At the same time, I gained about 25 lbs of lean muscle mass. In ski racing, like most sports, fat tissue is dead weight so losing it made sure that the weight I did carry was productive and helped me in being stronger on my downhill ski; thus making more powerful turns and allowing me to arc the ski from turn to turn. With today’s world cup skis, a lot of energy can be generated out of each turn and having the strength to control and maintain that energy is paramount to remain fast. Many race courses I raced on were very demanding with various pitch changes, varied turn shape, number of gates and sheer length. Endurance was a key factor to ensure that my turns were just as precise at the end of the course as they were at the start. If I was fatigued, turn initiation would have slowed and thus my line through the course would have been negatively affected. In a sport that is decided by hundredths of a second, every moment counts and so do my supplements. I trust ANS Performance and the high quality of products they produce – I look forward to representing them with pride in 2015”

The subject of declining of testosterone levels is a growing conversation and while much can be discussed about the causes, at least part of the decline can be attributed to natural aging.  As men approach 30 years old, their testosterone levels begin to decline at about 1% per year. This is a gradual process and while not immediately noticeable, is happening all the same and over time can be felt.

The Power of Positive Nitrogen Balance: Fueling Muscle Growth and Recovery

Nitrogen is an essential component of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. When our body is in a state of positive nitrogen balance, it means we are consuming more nitrogen than we are excreting. This surplus of nitrogen allows the body to retain and utilize more protein for various processes, including muscle repair and growth.

Muscle growth occurs when the rate of protein synthesis exceeds the rate of protein breakdown in the body. A positive nitrogen balance provides the necessary foundation for this process by ensuring an abundant supply of amino acids for protein synthesis. When our body has a positive nitrogen balance, it signifies that we have enough dietary protein to support muscle repair and growth.

When it comes to building muscle, most people think of protein first. But did you know that it's not just the protein itself that's important, but the specific amino acids that make up that protein? These amino acids are the building blocks of protein, and some of them are considered "essential" because our bodies can't produce them on their own.

The 9 essential amino acids are: histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. These amino acids cannot be synthesized by the body and must be obtained through the diet - with either whole food or supplementation.
